Traces of the Absent is an experimental approach to a material and a snapshot of a fleeting encounter. A hot glass ball was blown into a basket to record its structure. The basket pattern captured in the glass is reminiscent of the nostalgic basket bottles from Tuscany. The so-called fiasco was braided with straw to protect the glass from sunlight and damage. This bottle originated in the Middle Ages and became a symbol of Italy. Gradually, however, it was replaced by the Bordeaux bottle, which was easier to transport. The idea for Traces of the Absent was born during a glass workshop led by Helena Tapajnova at the Niesenglass glassblowing workshop in Unterseen.
