Traces of the Absent is an experimental approach to a material and a snapshot of a fleeting encounter. A hot glass ball was blown into a basket to absorb its structure. The result was a decanter whose bulbous body and thin neck allow the wine to better develop its aromas with a targeted supply of oxygen.

The basket pattern captured in the glass is reminiscent of the nostalgic basket bottles from Tuscany. The so-called fiasco was braided with straw to protect the glass from sunlight and damage. This bottle originated in the Middle Ages and became a symbol of Italy. Gradually, however, it was replaced by the Bordeaux bottle, which was easier to transport.

Traces of the Absent is not only the capture of a material structure in glass, but also the revival of a wine bottle steeped in history. It is said that the famous glass artists from the Valdelsa area invented the Fiasco. The production of the wine decanter Traces of the Absent is also intended to support and honor the craftsmanship and glassblowing in Switzerland.
